Message from the PRIO – Western Europe Subregional Desk-Pan Afrikan Monitoring Action Circuit:
Can the Planet disrepair caused by neocolonialism deliver peaceful, free and fair elections today in Ghana?
In order to carry out Planet Repairs monitoring of the electoral process in Ghana we must first reckon with the fact that Ghana is in a state of Planet disrepair. This state of disrepair is what the current system of neocolonialism produces. We must analyse whether this system can even deliver peaceful, free and fair elections today. We wish the answer to this question would be yes but it is for the facts on the ground, particularly from now onwards, to provide a decisive answer. Already lives have been lost and we can confirm two deaths so far. There have also been reports of rigging at the ballot boxes.
Whilst we are clear that the two political parties, NDC and NPP, are not capable of delivering Planet Repair changes as desirable, we share the view of those who believe that a John Mahama victory in the Ghana Presidential elections could be utilised by progressive forces to advance the opening of more radical pathways to Planet Repairs with a view to eradicate neocolonialism and promote decolonisation in West Afrika to strengthen the efforts in this direction being made by the governments of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). This is because Mahama is less likely to be violently repressive towards progressive forces as has been the case with NPP governments.
Furthermore, with developments in the AES, a Mahama victory in Ghana could tilt the balance of forces in the West Afrikan region towards PanAfrikan Decolonisation for Planet Repairs. We say so because Mahama is the only candidate that is standing in the Presidential elections today that has said that he is prepared to run a government that will positively work together with the AES. We know that this can only happen when progressive forces are well organised independently to pressurise a Mahama government to do so.
That is the reason why, against the odds we are pushing for peaceful, free and fair elections as that would produce this outcome.
